Ida Bomm (b.1996, DE) is interested in preconceived ideas about things and phenomena and aims to explore the potential of disassembling these ideas, fostering possibilities to imagine and speculate.
In her ongoing project Beyond the Agitated Margins of painting, she investigated the trajectory of painting as artistic practice and ‘the painter’ in a western art historical context. She approaches painting as a productive field that can open up conversations on how we and things are, allowing us to imagine alternatives.
Through painting, the project looks into non-normative histories and economies underneath a hegemonic narration of individualism and capitalism.
By challenging the preconditions and preunderstandings of the role of painting in society, Ida proposes painting as a form of production based on social relations and acknowledges the limitations of human mastery.
