lunch gathering

As part of the public program for Speculative Gatherings, organised by the graduating students of the Master of Fine Arts program at HDK-Valand, we invite you to encounter the historical medium of painting as a valuable tool to challenge the narrations to which we hold on today.

How can we imagine painting's historical trajectory that situates the medium today on the threshold between art and capitalism differently?
How can a perspective on the history of painting beneath and beyond the representational surface propose a different role for painting today?

By testing the sites of where a painting begins and ends and looking for perspectives in the history of painting besides the 'Old Master', painting can enfold possibilities to open up to the world and meet its histories critically.
In conversation with the artist Sigrid Holmwood, we will look into possible alternative historical trajectories of painting and investigate the role of the painter as a being in conversation and relation with others instead of the creator of commodities.
This event is organised as a lunch conversation. By acknowledging the practice of pigment-making from organic materials as a parallel to food-making processes, the participants are invited to enjoy the relations in the form of painting as lunch.
The lunch served at the event is vegan but contains sunflower seeds and linseeds. In case of allergies or intolerance, feel free to contact ida.bomm@posteo.de so that alternatives can be prepared.
